I've been coming here for years and its always been very good. Its basically a sandwich shop but when I say sandwich you get a baguette type thing with a good amount of proper filling (i.e. it'll actually fill you up). They also sell things like pasties, sausage rolls, cakes and stuff, and its properly home made. Prices are OK, its about £3 for a sandwich but they're a good size. My only slight criticism would be that you cant pay by card, but in fairness to them it is a small business and there is a cashpoint at the bank just down the road so not really a problem.The sign in the front says it all: probably the best sandwiches in the entire world. I come here often, all the flavors are great. My favorite is the new york pastrami, definitely recommend!

This place is awesome. Their sandwiches are literally amazing. A lot of students go here because of its location, but a lot of other folks go here too. I’ve often driven out of my way to get much lunch here when I’ve wanted something different, delicious and filling. They also have hot pies and pizzas, and the front of the shop has all kinds of jars of things and some regular grocery items. The sandwiches are the main attraction though!Browns have brilliant selection of cold, fresh sandwiches, do a good sausage and bacon Butty and have a fine selection of pies and sausage rolls. (the meat and potato has been the best I’ve tasted around York) There’s something for everyone!

Definitely worth a trip to Heslington to look at the gorgeous cottages and have lunch at Brown's. We had the vegan sandwiches, but there are plenty of options for vegetarians, pescatarians and meat eaters. The jacket potato options looked good too. Very friendly staff and a lovely setting.

I had been to this bakery every day I was working in York. The pies, pasties and rolls are always hot and fresh. The sandwiches are also fresh that day too. As well as sweet treats, I'm sure many locals would say a bakery of perfection. Best time for availability would be anytime before 11:30am. After this time you be disappointed to find your favourites already sold, not to say your eyes will not be caught by another product, for sure!
The interior is qaint. Mystic one might say. With being from the bussling city of Manchester, its not very often I stumble across such a place. The staff are very friendly and the bakery is very fair priced. I would visit again indefinetly when next visiting/working in York. Well worth checking out!The shop was recommended by a friend of mine who is studying in York. It's not in the City Centre but you can easily get there on the 44 or 66 bus in 15-20'. £3 for a Tuna with corn sandwich (they have just recently increased the price) and it filled my stomach up. It was sweet and tasty. The best one I've ever had. Don't miss it if you visit York. Highly recommend!
Always excellent service and the quality and selection of sandwiches is outstanding. Browns has a great reputation for their products and it is justifiably so... If you are looking for the best locally, pay them a visit - you won't be disappointed.
I've been eating here for over a decade. Great sandwiches made on premise and even to order. Great patstries and pies. Generous hot sandwiches. Lovely staff.
Awhh I miss those thick bread roll sandwiches, I used to date a girl in York and I'd often go to Browns for a Lamb and Mint sauce and Cheese Salad sandwich, can you deliver to Scotland?? If you get the chance to go.....GO they're absolutely scrumptious and the staff are brilliant
